  Mission

The mission of Women’s Voices is to connect women, diverse in age, ethnicity and culture, through artistic expression.  With affordable arts programming and exhibit opportunities for all women, Women’s Voices aims to empower women by developing their artistic skills, to encourage new relationships within the female community, and present a forum in which to express their individual voice.

Path of Women's Voices
A Hygienic Art, Inc. program, Women’s Voices was first implemented in September 2000, with a grant from the Community Foundation for Southeastern Connecticut’s Women and Girls Fund.  Since then, Women’s Voices has been instrumental in strengthening the female community of New London County.

      Workshops

Each year, Women’s Voices has offered an increasing number and variety of art workshops designed to encourage women to freely express their selves.

Kente Cultural Center has continued to be an integral part of the Women’s Voices program, sponsoring the Mothers and Daughters workshops since 2001.

Professional women artists share their experience and nurture each woman’s creative exploration. The casual workshop environment is conducive to conversing and sharing all aspects of one’s life and many new friendships have been forged.

Classes are held at the Hygienic Art Galleries, the Garde Gallery, and the Kente Cultural Center, a further example of how the New London community pulls together to support fellow programs.

After each session of classes, Women’s Voices helps women realize the value of their creative talents by offering a venue in which to show their new work.  The Women’s Voices Show Opening boasts the second highest attendance of the Hygienic Art, Inc. events.

Growing Stronger Year After Year

Women's Voices grows as women from past sessions return to expand their skills and new participants experience these unique opportunities for the first time. The Board of Directors always welcomes new members to the Women’s Voices Programming Committee.

Funding for Women's Voices has been made possible by
Hygienic Art, Inc., Kenté Cultural Center, and Garde Arts Center.
